Carnival – More than masks, confetti and streamers
Our days Carnival has very ancient roots, its origins date back to the Ancient Roman, Greek, and Egyptian period. What was celebrated and represented at that time was a temporary break-up with social duties and hierarchies changing completely the daily life style with jokes, pranks and profligacy as well; that is to say the mess replaced usual habits.
What we celebrate nowadays, as for other feast days, is an adjustment of the heathen holidays “disguised” and readjusted to the Catholic religion.
